PIANO REPAIR WORKS
The extent of repairs ranges from a small adjustment to a major overhaul, which could include replacing all the strings or repairing or replacing the entire soundboard. One needs to consider the value of the instrument before undertaking major repairs. Some pianos are simply not worth repairing. There are still a great number of old uprights, pianos built prior to the 1930's, which have had to endure the ravages of the environment long before central heat and air conditioning and which may have also had to endure many years of neglect. The cabinet may still be attractive, but the "insides" may be in such a state of disrepair that the instrument is not worth the cost of repairs. Of course, if a piano has great sentimental value, then the cost of repairs may not be a consideration.
RESTORATION
Piano restoration is a very specialized craft that takes a lot of time, patience, and attention to detail. Piano Tuners will often tell you that Pianos are worthless or impossible to restore simply because they are not willing to invest the time and attention required to restore them. More often our restoration are based on sentimental value and a gift. We are committed to restoring the beauty, quality and tone of fine vintage instruments using the highest quality parts and materials available. Maybe you have a family heirloom you want to restore to its original condition. Perhaps you’re looking at an older instrument for sale and not sure how to proceed. Whatever you’re rebuilding needs, we have the flexibility to meet them with excellent craftsmanship, integrity, and personal attention.
PIANO REVARNISHING
Repairing the finish of a piano, especially the high-gloss kind of finish, requires specialized skills and equipment and years of experience.
Tuning
Piano tuning is the act of making minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings of a piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune. The meaning of the term in tune in the context of piano tuning is not simply a particular fixed set of pitches. Fine piano tuning requires an assessment of the interaction among notes, which is different for every piano, thus in practice requiring slightly different pitches from any theoretical standard. Pianos are usually tuned to a modified version of the system called equal temperament. In all systems of tuning, every pitch may be derived from its relationship to a chosen fixed pitch, which is usually A440.
